The Obscureby Joey LawrenceComment: I really like this one...but then again you could photograph the telephone book and I'd love it;)
I love the way the dirty broken window obscures your face, and I love the dirt and texture on the glass. The light background on the right nicely contrasts and balances the dark left side. |

Whirlybirdby bransheartComment: Thank goodness, something more than a snapshot! I really like the composition and the repeating lines and patterns. It's a little dark though, perhaps due to the backlighting? The bottom left part of the image seems out of focus too..but I still like it;) |

Joker's Wildby cwyouComment: I don't normally like statues in images (except my own of course;) but the composition here is really good and the bright colours against the grey/white background is great. |

Hang upsby inspir8tionComment: I realy like this, it's different. I like the repeating pattern, and the curve takes the eye into the picture. Would have more impact with a greater depth of field, I think. Also might be more striking in B&W? |

Rustby Sam JowettComment: I would have like to have seen the metal feature more, perhaps a lower point of view, where it takes up more of the frame? |

Lashedby LadeeMComment: Hello from the Critique Club!
The eyes are the windows to the soul, so already there is an implied frame! This soul, being your daughter, means the world to you and so the image has special meaning for you. The eye is physically framed by the eyelashes and the natural folds of the eyelid, so meets the challenge well.
Most cultures in the west read left to right and naturally ‘read’ images in the same way - the dark space on the right of the image is the first thing the eye naturally sees and keeps pulling the viewer’s eye away from your main focus. This space is not needed in this image it adds nothing and is distracting. A much tighter, square crop would eliminate that and create a much more dramatic and dynamic image.
I love the sparkle and glitter on the skin, giving the impression of light playing on the skin. In comparison however the pupil seems ‘dull’ and without light. There is nothing there - no reflections, no points of light making it feel somehow unnatural or as if there is something missing perhaps. (I’m wondering if you softened the pupil in post processing as it seems much softer than the rest of the image?) This in turn gives the impression that the subject is bored, tired or at least expressionless. This almost makes the viewer feel the same way, as we tend to mirror for a moment the emotions images evoke.
This image met the challenge well and the more you view it the more it grows on you, it just needs a little something extra to give it more impact.

feeling darkby nikantComment: There a quite a few of these in this challenge - does DPC turn people to the dark side?:)) Yours has to be one of the better ones...I feel quite intimidated by that look! Can't quite make my mind up as to whether it is sexy or menacing or may be a mixture of both Good lighting 9 |

Noirby nico_blueComment: I just love this image! Great pose, great tones, great balance of light and dark. Just soft enough, just sharp enough. The lack of detail in the eyes is perfect for the challenge.
You are my green ribbon winner for this challenge - Green ribbon? It's the one entry that makes me green with envy...that makes me want to throw my camera away and take up knitting instead. So I'm giving you a 3 out of sheer spite...not really a 10..and a bet that you are a top three winner;) |
