This is very pretty, but it would look more desolate without the pretty pink sky. Sunsets/sunrises say 'happy' to me, not sad.

Yup, that looks pretty desolate. I once had a summer job walking barbed wire fences in NM, looking for breaks. A desolate job for sure. Nice entry.

I like a lot of things about this. The monotone coloring of the building makes the man really stand out. I like the repition of the blue jeans in the reflection of the sky in the window. I like the interest in the old wood. And I like the 'sad' feeling of the man sitting with his head in his hands. Well done!

This is a beautiful shot. Initiallly I knocked it a bit because it doesn't have a 'sad' feeling. It's almost too pretty, and the water looks too inviting. But looking at is closer, I see that the rocks are fairly barren. This might look more desolate with stormy skies and raging water. It really is a stunning shot, though. Bumping up the score for that.

This is a beautiful photo. Without the title, though, it's hard to tell that she's desolate. It looks more like she's just relaxing, pondering life. There's no real feeling of sadness to it.
