While he sleeps...by AnjellaComment: The idea of bokeh, as I understand it, is to separate the subject from the background, by making it (the background) out of focus to the point where it is unrecognizable, and therefore not distracting. Your title suggests the boy as your subject, but you focus on the toy. And to add to that the BG isn't out of focus enough to be considered bokeh. Hope this is helpful. |

Red Leafby BudComment: Very rich colours but I think you have too much going on in the image which in and of itself is very distracting. I think the red/purple leaves against green grass is very appealing but you need to eliminate some of the other elements in your composition. Hope this is helpful. |

Forces Unseenby stragsComment: Interesting concept. The idea would have worked much better in another challenge. I guess it could be considered bokeh to some degree but really you are not separating your subject from the BG, but using the BG to add to the drama of the shot. |

Yucca Mountainby drgsoellComment: In this image the BG is in focus to well to be anywhere near bokeh. With such a large subject it could prove difficult to create the bokeh effect without a very long lens, shooting from a distance, I would think. |

Dormant Dandilionby crabappl3Comment: I like the way the orange/yellow stands out against the blue/grey background. Also well executed bokeh. |

Winter Berriesby dartompkinsComment: Nicely saturated colour and well executed bokeh. I do find however the berries in the BG distract the viewer away from the main subject. Maybe a different crop or composition could work better. |

My glass guitarby tolovemoonComment: The colour combinations are nice but I find there is nothing in the image that suggests bokeh. In fact I don't find anything to be in particularly good focus, let alone a subject with an OOF BG. Maybe if you set it up so that the tiny glass guitar was your subject set against (not on top of - at some distance) a back drop of your full size guitar which could be completely OOF, it could work better |

"Nevermore"by zeuszenComment: Reminds me of Edgar Allan Poe. Black subjects are very hard to capture well - there is a fine line between getting enough contrast in the image without blowing out any highlights. I think you have done this efectively, although I find your focus a touch soft. The bokeh you have produced is sufficient to isolate the subject from the BG, even though there are no tell-tale artifacts to suggest that this bokeh isn't just a solid BG, slightly OOF. Still I really like it and is one of my top picks. |

Bokeh THIS!by slindenmanComment: What I see is a photo with shallow DOF without taking full advantage of the bokeh effect. You may have been better off showing how your big glass could be used to produce the bokeh effect, rather than showing your big glass. |

Knife or Death?by shutterflyComment: The desaturation here is a nice juxtoposition against the bokeh you have created. It looks like you rotated the blade to make it parallel to your frame. Because the drop stands out from the background so well, it looks as though the drop is falling slightly slanted. Other than that little nit pick, great shot. One of my highest rated. |
