Hanging on for dear lifeby ricokimComment: Hi Kim. Congratulations on your first DPC submission. Better to start at 5.0 an dgo up then to start at 5.8 and go down (like me). I'm trying to try your title to what is presented in the image, but the two don't seem to go - the tree seems verical and the roots seem well bedded. I would expect slightly more red or yellow for a sepia hue. |

Afternoon Napby escapetoozComment: Greetings from the Critique Club.
Hi Monica,
A difficult one to comment on. Based on your comments I hope you are pleased with your score. This is a lovely composition. Your subject radiates a sence of peace and calm that is superb. Per the comments from Simpa.
Given that you had a static subject I would have liked to see more use being made of the raking light across your subject. The light and shadows are doing a beautiful job of showing off the textures and folds in the clothing. Not sure, but I think a slightly higher POV with more of th etop of the body in the frame would have shown this off better. Maybe.
It is my hope that these insights are helpful and constructive. Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions regarding this critique. And please remember to mark it "Helpful" if you found it so. Good luck with future challenges.
Cheers

Guilelessby crazydaisyComment: Hi Danielle. In terms of composition this is simply beautiful; with the main subject in the foreground on the left and then an additional flower blurred in the background with superb bokeh. However, with an composition such as this the viewer expects some aspects of the main subject to be in very sharp focus so that they pop out. This needn't be the whole flower, it could just be the water droplets or the stamens or the front petals. As it is no espect is sharp like that. Lookign at the comment you recieved it seems that this is what most people were lookign for (although who are they - and me - to look for something the artist chose not to put there). |

Urban Twilightby NerdJNerdBirdComment: Davy - great dynamic range. I assume you did the whole HDR thing - very tastefully mapped. Not sure if you could have cloned out the blue sign on the wall as that takes away from the geneal flow of the eye.
Well done. |

Flowerby oscarmeyerComment: Hi Oscar,
Congratulations on your effort here. I think your basic composition works very well for the challenge. I did a fair bit of experimenting for this challenge but didn't enter as my efforts were poor. My problem was too much noise in by exposures due to the light factor. I never would have guessed that you had used a flashlight to expose this (an excellent idea to get round the editing limits). Looking at your details here I think you could have upped your ISO to get more pop into that flower. Nice effort though.
