Greetings from the Critique Club

I was given this beautiful shot to critique... Well I do not know where to begin. You scored very well (81'st)but lets see if I can recommend some things that might help this to score better.

1st thing that I see is the heavy reflection in the center and it is a bit distracting and my guess is that the voters took some points away for that.

2nd thing is that the shot don't really have anything that holds the viewers attention, shot does meet the challenge but needs something other then the nice colors to hold attention.

This shot was very creative and as you see from your comments was well done. Other then the above observations I cannot see anything more that could be improved here. By the way I really liked this shot and hope that you continue to share your creativity here...

Greetings from the Critique Club

I am happy to get this great shot to critique! You did a great job with the Shallow DOF, your photo meets the challenge perfectly. Now for my attempt to help you to score better:

I notice that the focus is a little soft on the subject (this was possibly on purpose), this can cost some points with the voters. I believe that the contrast could be bumped up a little bit. Your shot was taken in the middle of the day where the lighting is not always desirable, (I know that this was when the opportunity presented itself) however the voters here score photos taken at dawn and dusk higher since the lighting creates a more dramatic impact.

I really like your shot and believe that it should have scored higher.

Keep shooting shots like this one and you will ribbon soon.

Greetings from the *Critique Club*

First of all let me start off by saying that this shot meets the challenge of Shallow DOF. Good effort for your first submission.

Lets see where can I begin to help you improve your score. Your choice of subject lacks interest to the viewers as the comments have let you know. Keep in mind that photography is a form of art and you should try to be as artistic as you can with the challenges here on DPC, that lens cap might have worked better if you used less DOF and had a camera in the background that was out of focus, just a thought.

For a first submission this was nicely done, just don't take the challenge title so literally and read the forms prior to your submission this will help you get an idea of what the voters are looking for. I made the same mistake with my shallow DOF entry also, I went for super shallow like you did.

Greetings from the *Critique Club*

First of all let me start off by saying that this is a excellent shot and fits the challenge very well. Your placement at 25th was a surprise to me, since I feel that this shot should have finished higher.

Now for my observations that may have helped this excellent shot do better: The lighting on the left side may be a little overpowering, and the focus is a little soft (I believe that this was intentional but may have cost points with the voters) Composition is very good and I cannot see a way that you could have improved in this area.

Again a beautiful image. Nicely done.
