Greetings from the *Critique Club*

First of all let me start off by saying that this shot meets the challenge of Shallow DOF. Good effort for your first submission.

Lets see where can I begin to help you improve your score. Your choice of subject lacks interest to the viewers as the comments have let you know. Keep in mind that photography is a form of art and you should try to be as artistic as you can with the challenges here on DPC, that lens cap might have worked better if you used less DOF and had a camera in the background that was out of focus, just a thought.

For a first submission this was nicely done, just don't take the challenge title so literally and read the forms prior to your submission this will help you get an idea of what the voters are looking for. I made the same mistake with my shallow DOF entry also, I went for super shallow like you did.

This is really ho-hum subject matter and the lack of tonal contrast isn't helping. There isn't anything inherently eye-catching about the Canon logo so it kind of winds up being a fan-boy (or girl) sort of image. It does show shallow DOF but to what point? Ultimately, the photo has to have some sort of visual appeal and this just doesn't.

There is such a thing as too little Depth of Field. This is one such case.

Extremely small DOF (looks like a reversed lens, perhaps?) - the subject isn't too compelling, though.

This is a great macro and certainly meets the challenge. Not overly interesting, but the title helps it for me. hee hee Good one.
