I hope the Photographer doesn't have that dilemma: he just shows the best and it's up to the voters to educate their eyes. People should have trusted more, this shot could have been taken from the table and it doesn't matter whether it really was.

I find the hand on the newspaper more important than the one with the sticky fingers. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

| 01/25/2007 02:39:15 PM | Enginewashby AlmilanComment: LONG long time ago, when I was a kid, I read a book written by an Italian author called Gianni Rodari. I mean, the author, not the book. The title of the book in English would be something like "The voyage of the Blue Arrow". The Blue Arrow, in fact, was a toy train. Now, if my memory serves me well, and many times it doesn't, the story was as follows: one Christmas night, a kid is staring at the window of a toy store. He just stares and can't get any of the toys, because he's from a poor family. Anyhow, his waiting has an end, I guess because he gets tired or bored (I don't think he gets cold, because he's used to it), and goes back home, as usual, empty handed. But, that particular night, because it is Christmas I guess, the toys decide to go out of the store and find the boy and play with him and become his. So, all of them, the Ballerina, the one legged General, the Dog, and what not, get on the Blue Arrow and start roaming the streets of that city. During their adventures, they get attacked, kicked, but they also find many good kids. So, one by one, all the toys find a kid, like the Ballerina finds a cute little girl with red cheeks, the General finds a good boy, and so on. Even the Blue Arrow finds a kid, so stays at that kid's house and makes him happy. Only the toy Dog goes on to find the kid from the window. And he manages. The kid gets so happy, that he sleeps with the toy Dog. And, the next morning, when he wakes up, he finds that the dog turned into a live one, it isn't a toy anymore. Just like that other thing, the wooden stuff, I think it was called Pinocchio. Now, don't ask me how toys turn into living things, there must be something there in Italy that I don't know about, but it's an interesting thing to notice, don't you agree? Maybe it's the pizzas or something...
Anyhow, I was trying for a long time to comment this photo of yours and all the time I was thinking: what do people expect me to say about this? To comment about light, composition, post processing? The hell with all that, I just wanted to tell you that I managed to come up with a comment on your photo and that is that I remembered a book I read long long time ago...
By the way, I gave you a ten, and I believe I might be the only one. You don't deserve it, but I do. You get it, because you gave me the chance to say it. Thanks. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

| 01/25/2007 12:04:37 PM | Having a Beary Good Timeby RingostarrComment: A lot of bears and a written joke, with b instead of v. That's what I see in this photo, nothing else. Light? Yes, it looks like it comes from the window on the left, with the ceiling lamp on. Did you try to do something with it, in the sense of creating a more dramatic or pleasing or inviting effect? Not that I can tell. And, how are bears supposed to be interesting, are they placed in such a way that tell me a story? Not that I can read one. Just scattered all over the place, filling the house, some of them in the window and some in the roof, some even upside down, and a frog to add to the variety. But, do I care about them? Would a kid care about them? I don't think so. Maybe because they are to small in the overall photo to hold a kid's attention. Maybe because their colours melt in the overall picture (the reds of the bricks are more emphasized than the bears), and the hanging strings are more vibrant than the bears. So many things, equaling to nothing, I'm afraid. Maybe, just like my comment. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 01/25/2007 11:54:45 AM | Below Zero, Entering a phase change of waterby tbangertComment: Maybe cleaning a bit the branches would have helped on having only water and ice as your subjects. Then, maybe having a long shutter speed would make the water flow look better, smooth, almost icy, but different. And then getting rid of at least 75% of the title, so that I pay more attention to the photo than spending time reading. And definitely not including so much physics in a shot that tries to be artistic (I guess)...And, in the end, turning everything black and white. Then, I'd appreciate it better. As it is, I spend too much time thinking how it could be better, than just enjoying it as it is. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
