Wagen No 2by MelethiaComment: the driver looks so - i dunno - 1970s dignified? does that make any sense? i think it's the sears catalogue pose and brown clothes that do it... |

Late Afternoon at the Bookshopby JimiRoseComment: This is a Critique Club Critique
I really quite like this image - the deep tones, the bright highlights, the limited mid-tones all work well. The composition is great; the leading line implied by the cyclist, the repetition of circles in the wheels and pavement, all the lines and angles meeting and dispersing in the architecture. The man, man on bike, empty bike and mannequin set up wonderful vibrations, as does the unmet gaze of the cyclist - or rather, we meet his gaze, not the book buyer, at whom it was aimed.
The overall feeling of the work is great, it really feels right. Well doen indeed.

Night with Lightby heavyjComment: this is a lovely image, but i'm afraid it's not really a high contrast image. high contrast has a limited tonal range of high and low tones, with very few intermediate tones. the ultimate high contrast is pure black and white, no greys. the more greys or intermediate tones, the less high contrast it is. |
