I love the soft browns/whites of her fur against the crisp green of the grass, nice composition too | Photographer found comment helpful. |

anyway, I like this one the best out of the rest of the pics, even though there isn't any motion blur, makes me feel like time's been stopped and everything is peaceful, perfect composition also, I'd like to see brighter colors on the hummingbird though (like you did for your entry), but it is also nice in the earthy tones it's in and nice soft detail
(also, there's a bright spot on the closest wing that's a little distracting) Message edited by author 2006-07-03 16:32:51. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Initial thoughts: Definitely fits the challenge and I love the wide angle view for this shot
Visual appeal: Yes, it's there, nice subject and a great one at that for the challenge
Subject & background: I like how you can tell for sure that this boat is broken down, I also like that you found a wooden one (or at least it appears that way), it's also pretty neat that you found it in a spot without any other boats or things around. Your background is a nice empty sky with some clouds that you've managed to make look threatening, and the land in the background is very plain and empty too, I think that these all helped your photo to achieve that desolate feeling
Angle, framing & composition: Now, I've noticed a few comments on your crop, and one on the angle. Personally, I like the angle that you shot this from; it reminds me of skimming across the water passing all the sunk boats and just getting that nostalgic-sad feeling as they slowly go by, each one at a time.
The composition looks to me a little tricky, seems that you were trying to find a balance between getting those awesome clouds in the picture and not cutting off the mast (and perhaps there were more things to the right?). I'd have to see it, but maybe it could have worked better if you had put the boat in the lower left corner (of course where the third lines meet). This way, you would have cut off the bulk of that big cloud and half the stream of the lower one, but it also would have gotten rid of some of that sunshine that is reflecting off of them, then it seems that you would probably just have a few clouds peeking from behind the boat and then your eye would be pulled to look at the rest of the barren sky. Like I said, though, I'd have to see it and maybe it wouldn't look so good, lol
Focus, clarity & DOF: I think that all of these are spot on
Lighting & exposure: This is a toss up for me, while I like the darkness of the picture because it conveys desolation, I also find myself wanting a little more color and a little less darkness in the water. I'd say your sky looks great and the boat seems ok, though I think you did a nice job on the boat's lighting seein's how the stern is lit a lot more than the bow.
Post processing: Well, I don't see any obvious editing errors, though because this was advanced editing and seems you know your way around layers, maybe you could mess with brightening or coloring the water somehow without artifacting or pixelating it
Overall, my opinion: Congrats on your best score yet, I think this pic is well deserving of that. Also, I think your main concern (as I'm sure you gathered from the comments) is the composition. Overall, I'd say nice work, keep it up : )
