"Electric Rose"by ladpupmoeComment: I really love the composition of this shot.. The muted colours combined with the red works very well, and the shadows add that extra zest. Good job! 8 |

Taking In Grandby xhossComment: I like these types of photo.. and I really like this one for one reason, the lady standing still looking at the camera. That is a really nice touch, though I think I would have made her more prominent, either with a different crop or with some photoshop trickery.
Good job anyway, 8. |

Behind the Glassby sagestudioComment: Hmm. This looks familiar. Can't think of from where tho. Too much black space, it draws attention away from the window. |

Holiday Trimmingsby OneSweetSinComment: Interesting. The fact that you took this in the snow is a neat idea. However, you need just a bit more lighting on the snow to bring that fact out. Possibly a flashlight lying on top of the snow facing the basket? I like the colours on the trimmings, very vidid. I wish colour of the basket was a bit more so. The composition leaves some to be desired. It feels static and boxed in. |

The Shinning(Here's Johnny)by spacebrushComment: Greets from the Critique Club
Hi Justin,
This is a clever idea and the photograph is well executed. I think the crop may be a bit harsh, cutting off his chin and the top of his head doesn't work well. Maybe just a bit more space in either direction would have helped? Other than that I can't offer much criticism. The picture seemed to score fairly well with the voters.
I will say that the picture size is rather small, both in physical size and memory usage. DPC allows a picture size of 640x640 pixels and memory size of up to 150k. I highly encourage you to use all of that, as that really shows your photograph in its best light.

"Where the Lilies Bloom"by bruskiComment: Greets from the Critique Club:
Hi Nick,
This is a nice clean shot. The DOF works well to isolate the lily from the background and the exposure is good, though maybe a bit dark. There is a bit of grain present, but not enough to really harm the image.
My main nit pick is in the composition.. I feel like the lily is hemmed in and that there's not enough space around it to really appreciate the beauty of the lily... I especially don't like that you've cut off the petals on either side of the picture. I understand that it was probably necessary under the conditions you were shooting, but I still don't like it.

Avenueby ImagineerComment: Hi Jon,
This is a clean shot, but not overly exciting. I like the effect that blowing out the sky has on the shot tho, the interplay between the light and the shadows of the trees is particularly nice. I'd like to see it with a bit more contrast tho, something to give it that extra punch and make it seem more immediate and real. Hope that makes sense...
Thanks for the comment on my 'Gateway to Lapland' shot! |
