Nasty Spiderby glad2badadComment: I think this actually is what's known as a fishing spider - we've decided to keep a particularly large specimen in a terrarium for the winter. Ours is quite large & the kids love it. |

Elkby staabComment: A classic pose & a great capture. Loved seeing these beasts when I was out in Colorado. |

Havenby staabComment: Great portrait - exposure & focus is just perfect & I love how her skin just glows when juxtaposed against the rough texture of the lichen. I'd love to get a shot of my daughter as good as this one! |

Capture a unique sceneby tmphComment: Nice camera!
Were a bit flat here lighting-wise, IMHO. Your key (a window?) is to low/you're too high & your fill light/hair light to far behind to really bring texture the subject.
Background is obviously (deliberately?) flat, which doesn't help as it does nothing to reinforce the look on the subjects face. Expression seems unmotivated for the environment - you are asking too much of the viewer!

Welterweight Boxerby JawnyRicoComment: You went a little overboard on the sharpening/USM - remember that it can't make up for bad focus (I often have to tell myself that!) | B&W may have worked better here | A little vignetting would have helped focus the viewers attention | Lighting would have been nicer if the key was brought around 180 degrees & a light fill added where the main light source is right now (I know, you probably didn't have control over where the light was, but you could have moved the bag to coordinate with the light or used a trouble light -- anything!) | Perspective is flat, coming around & placing the camera so we were looking around it slightly would have brought more drama to the image.
