I always think these terribly simple compositions cannot be hurt by taking things as simple as they will possibly go. The feeling that these aren't vertical adds an unwelcome tension to the image, one that isn't carried through in the image itself and thus feels wrong. The other element is of course the reflections, which show elements of a room and a window: clean those up, or simply use a soft-light, and you have, I think, an interesting tonal study in a kind of black/brown world. The shape of such shiny things is actually communicated through the shape of the reflections of light - if those reflections, as here, are of a more complex world they're likely to remove attention from what appears to be your subject: that is whay a simplification of those would work, and why every interesting shot of relective materials is almost always more softly-lit.

Seems very under-exposed, or even un-lightened in processing. The illumination of your subject appears fine, but everything is condensed into such a restricted range of brightness that its actually hard to tell. Cropping, or perhaps lack of it, is a touch uncomfortable too.

Comment:
Very flat exposure this: and from the look of that reflection, rather un-thought-out lighting to go with it. Sense of composition is a bit strange for a set-up image, everything being condensed across one line through the horizontal centre of frame.

Comment:
Cropped too close, light too direct and uninteresting, angle of view to ordinary and obvious - all these elements will hurt your score, and make this an uninteresting image. The dead quality of light on your background also doesn't help. The 'good' points are that the exposure and sense of detail are fine.

Interesting illustration of the effects of point of view here: this is so much like a million car photos in every on-line car sales site, except perhaps taken with a better camera, and maybe more carefully exposed. But its very difficult to make an impact with images taken from the everyday standing-up point of view - especially of everyday objects, and especially in colour: you become too much part of the world of everyone's snapshots.

Go higher, go lower, go closer, go further away, but simple framing from around five foot up in the air is always going to be very very usual.

Almost an interesting study of the moulding, the casting of this object. Dynamically, in light, it becomes a touch flat: perhpas the background is simply to ordinary grey. The illumination of the cureves of the tap are intriguing though.

Whoa, Les Dawson lives! I get, from your title as much as anything - certainly not from the image itself - a sense of disrespect that I don't like much. A sense of her being laughed at for her age, her look.

There is, I think, a delicacy required in the framing of a such a very simple image: exactly how far one chooses to allow negative space around the object. The immediate impression here is that you've cropped or framed it too closely and that, for a really basic illustration of something, as this shot is, you should give it more room to breathe. After all, in itself, it's really not an interesting object.

Beer as not-beer, perhaps; without title I'm not sure I could have told you what this was - and I think I might have liked it more for not knowing, for the indecipherable nature of it. It reminds me of the foam one sometimes finds on plants in the morning, the eggs of insects.

Nicely organised, and well shot technically. Somewhat obvious and lacking a real spark other than as a pleasant series of colours for me, however.
