Give Peace a Chance by LaMasComment: I'd have given this one an 11 if you had used the Union Jack rather than the American flag in terms of this challenge. This is a fantastic photo. |

Vintage Platesby Ja-9Comment: Greetings from the Critique Club...
This photo definitely fits the challenge. The door plates have an excellent 'vintage' quality about them in their state of decay and disrepair. The mood and textures are excellent as well. 5.47 is not a 'bad' score for this photo but I'm sure a higher score would have been more interesting for you. As I browse your comments, as brief as they may be, one does stand out for me. The one that mentions getting closer would be my primary goal in this setting as well. One of my personal goals in photography is to examine the parts of the whole that create the interest in any given scene rather than the entire scene itself if that makes sense. The detail in this image that creates interest for me is on the left side where the one plate is cocked diagonally between the other two upright plates. That little bit of off-center imbalance strikes me as the most interesting part of this scene. Maybe focusing on that area a little more closely would create a more dynamic view :)
Good luck in the future...

Box Lightby stantheman1313Comment: Greetings from the Critique Club...
This image, at all levels, embodies the theme of the challenge very well. After reading your setup info, I think you did an excellent job with what you had to work with. Maintaining a sense of three dimensions within this composition also adds a lot to the theme. I can't really offer you a suggestion for improvement on this idea. I like the way you executed this one. Simplicity is often the best solution, and this image answers that call quite nicely... good work! |

Diffractionby nmrmakComment: Greetings from the Critique Club :)
This is an interesting abstract of light play that creates an interesting view of contrast and texture. In the true sense of the term, texture is defined by shape, but I believe the lack of definitive shape outside the realm of the abstract was the undoing of this photo in terms of the challenge.
I do, however, love your approach to this topic. My personal philosophy in photography is to study the specific elements of any particular subject that make it interesting and focus on them instead of the object/subject as a whole. You will find this path quite rewarding in the personal aspects of this hobby, but not so much in the public aspect as shown by the results of the collective vote on this website :)
Keep up the good work :)

not so "cloudy and windy day around home"...by cyparisComment: Greetings from the Critique Club...
Re-shooting previous images in your collection can be an excellent way to improve your skills. Over time, you will gain an understanding of how images can be improved based on your own learning and feedback you get from others.
Landscapes are difficult images to compose... You have to find a way to connect your viewer with a scene that they aren't familiar with. This image doesn't seem to have that connection point and there is no particular subject element that draws me in as an outsider to your scene. The time of day that this photo was shot doesn't lend itself very well to intriguing lighting. Most of the interesting detail in this scene appears to be in the shadows... Maybe an alternative perspective and time of day could be chosen to create something more magical about this scape...
