Have A Coke and a Pug !!by ShutterPugComment: I feel like the shot might have benefitted from a little more contrast but I worry about the definition of the subject's left eye (on the right side of the photo). Given a less restrictive challenge type I think you could have lightened the left eye and still applied a slightly stronger contrast without losing the detail in the subject's farthest leg but you would have obtained a strong white point in the drink bottle logo. |

Hello there!by birdyblueComment: Not the most inspiring shot but I'm partial to the subject and your duotone treatment is fantastic. Very well-done shot & editing. Tones run from solid black to solid white with no excessive loss of data in either of those extremes. This shows a deft touch at converting your work to duotone. Great job. On a less technical note I bet that guy/gal is a blast to live with.
Congrats on both levels |

National Past Timeby yankoComment: little grainy; seems like it might have too much contrast to it but I do love the emphasis on the texture - 6 |

Crayolas and Paintby swallaceComment: Great exposure. You kept the details and tones throughout the ranges. You're light tones aren't blown out and the dark ones retain details, too. Very nice work. Composition doesn't set me afire but it does show some action and interest. Creative idea and well-executed. 9 |

White As Snowby RockBruiseComment: White point seems just a hair too bright (see church steeple and door seem to lose detail). I think you could have kept just the smallest amount of detail in your lightest details to pickup another point from what I'm seeing. 6 |

Thirsty for Loveby TammerComment: Very nice treatment. This shot's lack of a true white point is not a weakness as the whole image sits under a color cast that seems intended to soften the color palette and lend an emotional air for the viewer to pick up. Love how the bottle's angle mirrors the stem/branch coming from the vase. The lean feels unnatural but the fact that it balances the angles on the right side of the shot help me to notice its lean and overlook what could be taken as contrived. I'm not a fan of the inner key-line for this shot; it seems I infer a poster print from this line alone. The darker tones of the petals seem to contain some noise that doesn't enhance the image. Nice conversion. |

Two Lips.by SimmsComment: Hot Damn!
Outstanding challenge entry. Not only a creative subject but the best treatment I've seen yet (I'm still early in the voting but your work shows a great vision for this subject). Love the tones. You have a great white point to counterbalance the solid black that can be found in the shadows.
Using more adjectives would only serve to cheapen the quality of your work. This is a shot to be proud of in terms of vision, execution and editing. I'd love to see this in the top 10 for this challenge. |

Garden Angelby bgableComment: This doesn't work to move me much. I hope I see something that inspired you to try a duotone image but it seems like it could as equally as well have been an image you shot that you just chose to try converting.
The shot seems awfully busy which detracts from your subject. A shallower depth of field would have helped the photo some (smaller f-stop will give you a shallower depth of field and more blur on the background). The fence post is slightly tilted which seems to be complimentary to the statue's outline but with the horizontal lines of the statue base and the fence it just comes off as tilted and it is reinforced by the vertical branch on the far right side of the photo that is leaning at a similar angle. |

Tulipsby theflyComment: The first element I notice is the lightness of the tulip heads but that is immediately in contention for me with the grainy texture of the image. Wish that I knew whether you intended the grain to be a major element in the image or not. Regardless if it was not intended then it seems an intrusive element and if it was intended then its not used liberally enough for me to get the more abstract feeling. This image seems to hang between a grainy photo of 3 tulips and an abstract where the general idea of 3 flowers and their brightness is used to create the concept of flowers. Its a creative idea and I want to give you a good score if you were trying for a more artistic interpretation of the subject matter. I'll try to get back to this after the challenge to see what else you have in your port and see how this works into your existing shots. 6 |
