Wait where's my whiskeyby mrchhasComment by jamesgoss: I like the high-key look, there's still plenty of contrast, although I do wish that the rim of the glass wasn't as blown out.
I'm not sure what the object in the shot glass is... It looks like ice, but it has a strangely unidentifiable shape to it, almost like the pipes in super mario bros.
overall it's not a bad shot, but lacks the huge visual punch/greater meaning that would take this to the next level. |

Work In Progressby mrchhasComment by olbol: I'd do something with the central hole, the mundane-ness wrecks the whole ManRayish point of everything else. |

Oops...by mrchhasComment by mrchhas: Thanks to everybody for the constructive comments!!! This is the first challenge that i've entered that i actually set up the shot and thought about it before hand, and i have to admit it was a lot of fun... even if this was a bit rushed. Some of my friends also had suggested that the cone be more colorful, or a different flavor, but i wanted the eye to be drawn immediately to the model's face, and follow her eyes down to the falling cone.... which in reality could have been caught with a higher shutter speed. The peeps from the gelato store were already ticked that i bought a cone just to drop on the ground so i didn't want to risk a reshoot! :-D
Anyway, the idea came because i think, as jmritz noted, the saddest thing i can think of is a brand new ice cream cone falling on the ground. Unless you're eddie murphy, obviously! |
