I think this is a great photo. A nice variety of Parrellel Lines - the mauve colors are pleasing to the eye and soften the building and the staircase. I wonder, at this Indian Valley College in Novato, do they have a class on "How To Win at Indian Bingo?"

This doesn't look like a poppy to me....Morning Glory and...? some thing else maybe a poppy. Too centered and too head on. Maybe try working on composition-shoot from lower, higher, side.

Nice, graphic. I think it could be improved with better focus or sharpening, it needs a touch more contrast within the subject (which, incidentally, would provide the tonal range necessary for the perception of sharp edges). With the added subject contrast, the background would go darker, which wouldn't be a bad thing at all.
