For the very, very young Indiana Jonesby MykkkaComment by salmiakki: Greetings from the Critique Club
I see you are a new member of the DPC family and this is your second entry.
I suspect the reason for the low score was this image was a little bit too out of the box for most voters. It's certainly a bridge, but when faced with the strong competition in this specific challenge I feel it was not going to fair well. Out of the box doesn't do well here on DPC.
From a technical perspective, the background is a bit too over exposed which leads the eye away from the subject. I LOVE the fact you can just barely see a child climbing onto the structure. I bet the majority of voters missed that.
Looking at the composition I feel this would benefit from either a few steps backwards, or shooter with a wider focal length.
Keep going! DPC can be a tough place, but don't be discouraged. Hang around, enter more challenges and enjoy. |

Quietby MykkkaComment by wbanning: Hey Mykkka,
This is a Critique Club comment. I really like the details in the photo. There's a story here for sure. Friday afternoon, the tie is off, the shoes are off, a cup of coffee (or ???) and a moment of quiet (with the phone on manual silence mode) at the end of the week. It's a really clever image. But... as you've no doubt seen, the majority of voters here are not kind to this type of image and your score shows that. If you look at the highest scoring shots, you'll see much attention to traditional techniques and "pretty" images.
So, for my taste, I like the story here and don't care so much about "pretty." If you're comfortable with that, this kind of image may find a following of some like minded photographers. If you're out to get competive scores, that's a different process and the critique could be quite different. Since you're new here, I didn't want to presume. Hope you keep participating and finding your niche.

Quietby MykkkaComment by giantmike: I see what you did here with the phone (I really just barely see it, this is dark). But my eyeys want the foreground to be in more focus, or the background to be more obvious. |
