I bet that the green color really helped smooth things out though in a way that a hue shift wouldn't have...

I really like the firework a lot. I think the trees (bushes) distract from it, though.

Obviously, you can't retake it, but try to think about that as you take future shots. The bushes obscure the lower right extremes of the starburst. You could use the house behind the bushes to convey a sense of scale to the burst.

However, you can try editing them out. Or at least burning them so they're not so visible.

But regardless, you should feel lucky you get such a great view at home! :)

I like the shot overall. However, I prefer your alternate. I have to ask why you went with the portrait orientation and the tighter crop in your submission, when you changed both in the alternate? Those would've been allowed even under basic editing rules.

what I like:
I like the set up, much more interesting than your typical money shot.the lighting works very well.

What I don't like:
I think you could use a bit more depth of field. My eye is drawn to the upper left-hand corner where things are out of focus.
