Not a bad interpretation of the theme, but it would have been better if the picture were in focus.

This was a good idea for the challenge, your composition is good, your light is good. Your focus is just too weak.

Comment by Zed Pobre:
Conceptually, this is an interesting shot. I like the idea of late night writing. Unfortunately, it doesn't convey any sense of possibly being outside (on cloth, it implies being found in a bedroom, the way that it is), which violates the challenge constraints. Also, focus is very soft (intentional? it works ont he pen, but not on the paper), and the blown highlights on the candle combine with the lens flare to really hurt the image. Colors are also a little off, seeming a bit too reddish to me. If this were advanced editing, I would have recommended blending multiple shots to get both the candle and the book. With basic, the most I can recommend is underexposing this, and then dumping contrast and boosting shadows to see if you could get the book back up. Correcting the flare probably requires buying a better lens. If you could have found a tree stump or porch chair to set this on, that might have helped with the "outside" aspect.

Doesn't really FEEL like an outside shot, to me... In any event focus is too weak to do the image justice.

I agree this is a little overpowering for a minimalist theme.

sorry, I can't understand what "overpowering" refers to... the picture is nice, though the sky is full of stains (is that the effect of overpowering?)

the shot feels a little crooked, could maybe be fixed with a free transform
