Documentary - Pollen Catchersby bryantbusComment by loseme: *Critique Club*
"Documentary - Pollen Catchers" is an good entry into the DPC Cinema challenge.
The overall image is a nice macro/close up. Great focus and clarity to draw the viewers eye right onto the bee. The image looks very sharp, the wings almost look unreal. The background looks a little noisy for me, but of course that might have been what you were going for. Looking at your profile and other work I think you might have been going for this approach, with the sharp almost noisy image. I really do like the close up, we can really see the bee in great detail.
I think this challenge was a little harder because voters, like myself but a little more emphasis on the subject. I personally looked at the shots for the photographic quality and also the believability as a movie. I was a little torn on the title since you used the word Documentary for the D, but in the end it did not take away from the score I gave.
Overall nice close up and I look forward to your future entries. |

Small Town Emergencyby bryantbusComment by timfythetoo: Greetings from the Critique Club -
First let me say that photojournalism in not my expertise so please bare with me.
My first thought is that you got a good pic of a fireman. It would have been nice to see some aspect of the emergency so to tell more of a story (that must be the rubber necker in me).
The colors are nice and crisp. The focus could have been a bit sharper in my opinion. I see that your ISO settng was at 1600 which probably didnt help - might be the cause for the slight noise in the background/house area. Cropping that area out may have been a slight improvement.
Not sure what else to add here. Overall the pic doesnt really tell a story by itself. It may have worked as one piece of a larger work of pictures. It's not a bad shot but not a strong one either IMO. But please take my opinion for what its worth - an opinion. Good luck on your future entries and I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Documentary - Pollen Catchersby bryantbusComment by posthumous: damn site erased my comment. I was saying that this is better than the other nature documentary shots, because your title suggests a focus for the movie and your picture has a good focal point on the bee. He seems like a character. There's even room on the left for text! |

Documentary - Pollen Catchersby bryantbusComment by Elvis_L: you are streching the D word as this wouldn't actually be a movie title. the photo itself is ok. there seems to be some problems with purple dots on the left hand side.. would be better if the flowers were in better bloom. |
