May02by MarkBComment by sempermarine: The background looks like insulation found in a basement covering the foundation. I have the same issue in my little home studio. I actually used it in this shot . It just needs to be muted because of the glare it throws.
The cue ball looks a bit yellow. From the gel? cool shot. Inspired me to add a pool shot later on in the challenge. Keep em' coming. Message edited by author 2012-05-03 10:27:16. |

May02by MarkBComment by MinsoPhoto: Agreed on the background. I am curious as to what you used? I think a black simple bg would work but also an environmental bg thrown out of focus would add interest as well. |

May01by MarkBComment by MinsoPhoto: To add to the previous comments you don't want the shadow from your nose to merge with the shadow on the other side of your face, a different angle or a fill light would help with that. Also don't be scared to throw some emotion in the shot, you kind of look like a deer in head lights. No one is going to make fun of you in a mean way and if you let your inhibitions go you will be surprised at the emotion you can add into your shots. One last suggestion is that your light source is very small (from looking at the catch lights in your eyes) an easy fix for this is instead of pointing your speedlite directly at yourself, turn it and bounce it off a large wall or something similar. Look forward to seeing more of your work. |

May01by MarkBComment by Art Roflmao: I sat through some lighting seminar a couple months ago and there was a word for that shadow your nose is creating. I can't remember it, but it wasn't good. Maybe try varying the position of the light or reflector. ...and throw out a more dramatic facial expression (take lessons from sempermarine) ;-) |
