Great portrait. You look like you've tried to tame the backlighting in post. I'd have been tempted to do this also.. but for balance it might have worked better to let is blow out as strong backlighting... contre jour style? (Bump)

Hello from the Critique club

An appealing image that meets the challenge

A lovely portrait of a very attractive lady the shot tells us that she is inextricably linked with the Magnolia public school by placing her between the two coaches together with her clothing. Your lighting and exposure have worked well to make her stand out from the darker background although there are some darker shadows under her chin it is not excessive. Your lower shooting position has enabled you to use more of the sky in a less distracting way than a normal viewpoint. All in all a very competent portrait, well done

It has been well received in this highly popular challenge, thank you for your entry.

Greetings from the Critique Club

Hmm this is the kind of image that makes the case for me as to why phones are not as good as cameras. The top two thirds of this image are flat and washy, while the bottom third is actually very nice to look at with nice thirds and leading lines. To be blunt I'm surprised that this snap finished over 5.5.

Having read your photog's notes, the one question I can't help but ask is, why oh why didn't you use your camera?!

Greetings from the Critique Club!

Fun entry, I gave this a 6 in voting, mostly cause I liked how well the phone was hidden and the oof dogs' reflections.

I think there are two main reasons why this didn't do better. One, there is a lot going on in this pic; so much visual clutter, so much stuff that just doesn't need to be there. Yes I know you want the cluttered vanity there to confuse the viewer, and I love the use of the three-way mirror reflecting the dogs.

But the stacking cases on the left, the edge of the towel rack on the right, they do nothing for the shot except take up valuable space. In a shot like this, you really need to have a definite reason for everything being there.

Second reason: there isn't a level horizon in this image. And there must be one; most voters hate a horizon that isn't level. Levelling the image on the base of the mirror frame would have done the job nicely as so many items on the vanity are at an angle themselves, like the bright yellow iron. Again, there is a time and a place for Dutch angles, but a busy shot ain't one of them!

Hope this has been useful.

Susan
