Tarp Weight: "Waiting on Roof Repair"by 777STANComment by EL-ROI: This is somewhat of an ordinary subject but it isn't really shot extraordinarily to make it stand out as something awesome. There is really no color and the textures shown aren't really the highlighted as the reason for the photo. You did manage to put the subject nearly in the bottom right third of the shot which is a good composition technique. |

Emergency Exit: "On The Flip-Side"by 777STANComment by karmat: CRITIQUE CLUB CRITIQUE

Compositionally, the image is a bit flat/static. It "fills the frame" but seems a bit too tight to have the eyes "roam" any. Also, it isn't quite straight one so it feels tilted even though the words seems straight.
Technically, the colors are really good. That bright blue is a great attention getter and the yellow provides a nice contrast. Also, the focus and exposure looks pretty good, except that resizing may have left some artifacts around the tag and lights.
Overall, a "cheerful" shot that definitely meets the challenge. It just lacks the "sophistication" that some of the pictures at the top had.
If you have any questions, let me know, and best wishes to you in future challenges!

Hugh: "The Presentation of an Orange Raspberry..."by 777STANComment by sfalice: GREETINGS FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB
Awwww, 777STAN, and you worked so hard on this one too!
When doing a set-up like this, it probably is even extra-important to consider the size and make up of the props, keeping everything in proportion and in perfect balance to create the illusion.
Consider making the backdrop perfectly flat, perhaps with a poster board or even with the blanket you used on a very flat surface. Then, unless the chipped part of the plate contains some of your illusion information, either disguise it or select another surface. finally, consider that the "eyes" and the "mouth" are pretty much the same size here, where even in most illusions the 'eyes' are likely to be smaller (or larger).
You have good sharpness and probably used a tripod. Good! Did the shadows come from a flash? Or lighting? If so, with a tripod, it is usually possible to just select a long-enough exposure to get the image sharp without the extra light.
Still, all in all, it looks as if you had fun creating this cute little image, and that, 777STAN, is what it is all about! |
