Conclusion: Overall an average composition which does not go very well with the theme of challenge. Sometimes such pictures do well, but than they need to be technically or aesthatically "exceptional". Maybe a different crop, with less negative space could have helped. Considering this is your first submission, you have scored fair on this one.
