My first impression of this image is, "Why didn't it score higher?" It's a beautiful, artistic vision, good presentation.
Technicals: Focus and exposure look fine to me. I really don't think there's anything to improve here.
Composition: Great use of space; beautiful implied story. As one of your commenters below mentioned, maybe turning the globe would be something to try, although I personally think it's better this way. I like the added border, but some viewers might find it distracting.
Meeting the challenge: It meets the challenge topic, although it could be argued that the earth is not the universe. I think, if anything, the photo is a bit too subtle for the average DPC voter - you sort of have to be "in your face" for an idea to sell here.
Overall: I really like this entry, and find it difficult to believe that it didn't score higher. I was looking at your other images in your portfolio: you do beautiful work, delicate, subtle, I really like it. I hope to see more of your imagery.
