The Academyby OlyuziComment by Beagleboy: Cool subject matter, but the darkness of the image gives it a "flatness" that doesn't appeal to me. Also, the support clomuns look all weird near the bottom. |

Miredby OlyuziComment by newtune3: I too like the b&w choice. Symmetry is an issue for me in this shot. As was stated before, there is too much area to the right of the boat. It is not quite in the center of the rule of thirds area. The boat itself is caught at a bad angle as it too does not look symmetrical. The transom appears to have two differnt angles on the left and on the right. It looks like a boat that I might try to draw and not get quite right. Perhaps a shot more from the side instead of from the stern might be better. It just gives the photo an off balance look to me. I like the texture of the exposed shore but the extra white is distracting to me as well. Good luck and I hope that this does not sound too harsh. The shot is always there, it is most difficult for me to capture the perfect or best angle, light composition, location, ........

Miredby OlyuziComment by Brooklyn513: Looking at the previous posts, I found I agreed with several of them... A closer crop on the boat would have given this photo more impact, I also felt that there was to much foreground. Crop out the branches and get closer, let the abandoned boat make its statement... It seems to get lost in the photo. |

Miredby OlyuziComment by LindaLee: I am sorry that I didn't have time to comment during the challenge, but will happily do so now:
I gave you a 5, and this is why:
1. I like the composition. I also like the choice of black and white, but the image lacks impact.
2. Though I "know" that the boat is the subject, it seems to be diminished by it's surroundings. There is just too much else competing for attention. I think a much tighter crop on the boat would have helped significantly.
3. The dark area on the top left, as well as the branches hanging down into the view are very distracting and keep drawing my eyes away from the boat.
4. It looks very oversharpened, to the point of all the little bits of white drawing my eye to them.
