Love the black and white treatment on this, and the whole rock star up against the rocks thing. Kinda cool. The actual tonal range of the blacks and whites is good, but there is just too much gray for me - she almost blends into the rocks. I would also like to have seen this cropped in on the left just a bit so that she isn't so centered in the frame.

I agree with bear, cropping the photo on the left (maybe square?) would improve this one a lot.

very detailed, and beautiful colors!

Love this kinda stuff, thanks for posting it in the forums!!

I guess my eye went first to the charcoal-looking bark. This is a really cool picture and inspiring me to try out my S3 a little more often. You must've been extremely close!

Please try to avoid throwing things your cats eat if my car happens to pass by :-)

Can I have my hug now?

I'd try cropping off about 20% of the image on the left, getting the hopper's eyes more off-center, and perhaps bringing more detail into the darker portions of the middle tones, thought hat bit might work against the stark quality you are after. My concern is that the ants are a little murky here, they aren't really registering without close examination...

thanks for your comment.
it was really helpful

Very good detail here. Yeah I like the earthy tones. Maybe a slight playing with curves or levels might make the ants pop out just a bit more. I have to totally agree with Bear about the comp, I think taking a little off the left could make a significant difference. As it sets now, the hopper is quite centered, I think getting that eye closer to the left frame would add a lot dynamically. A very cool shot though, and a real neat find. Nice job. :-)

thanks for the help!
