My Daddy's a Road
My Daddy's a road.
I walk him to the school.
I ride him to work.
I put my thumb over him.
I dream of him,
of where he converges
in reddening light.
My Daddy's a street.
I cross him. I leave
in his gutters
crumpled-up ideas.
I pull on him
and off him, I park
at his side, I ignore
his signs. I forget
the lead I took from him.
I long for his forever open arms
to close on me.
