Day 9 - Ripplesby CapeSailComment by SandyP: Jeff, this is GREAT! It's painful to see this beautiful photo taken with your new 70-300 lens because that was my favorite lens and the one that just died on me a couple of weeks ago. sniffle sniffle. You are going to LOVE it! And I think this photo kinda confirms that.
What a beautiful reflection!

Day 8 - Reflectionsby CapeSailComment by violinist123: You could burn that part of the sky down a bit, drop a gradient over it, use levels, do it in raw, etc - it's not that blown out that it can't be pulled back from the edge. Having said all of that - it doesn't bother me a bit. This is a very nice scene and the reflection in the water really makes the shot. |

Day 8 - Reflectionsby CapeSailComment by BeckyT: Nicely done. I love the reflections of the clouds in the water. Could have been in the Symmetry challenge. Love the tones. Not sure how to fix partially blown out sky. I am still learning photoshop. |

Day 8 - Reflectionsby CapeSailComment by SandyP: This is absolutely gorgeous! I love the symmetry of those billowy clouds reflecting in the water. It's just an awesome scene! I didn't even notice that there was anything blown in it. It looks beautiful!

Day 8 - Reflectionsby CapeSailComment by Melethia: Lovely reflection! I don't mind blown skies but a lot of people do and it seems to be a benchmark for "professionalism" - ie just don't have blown skies. Try Jason's tip - otherwise, when you convert from raw, try using two conversions. One the way you have it here, and a second with the exposure way down. Then layer the two, use the eraser at gradiated settings (less opacity to more) and "erase" from one layer to the other, depending on what you want to keep from each. Way more work than I'm willing to do on my shots (and I have lousy PS skills, but I talk a good game.) :-) |

Day 8 - Reflectionsby CapeSailComment by jaysonmc: Mentioned you want to blown highlight tips? You use Capture NX?
I have noticed you can adjust the EV -.5 and recover highlight detail. It is almost if the RAW image contains the data but can't cover the whole dynamic range (some of your blacks will go into the dumps though).
As for the photo itself. Very nice. I like the symmetry and the huge cloud. A nice B&W study. |

Day 8 - Reflectionsby CapeSailComment by JerseyGenie: I really like the symmetry, the reflection, the framing. I really am drawn to this shot. Raises the mood of the day from blahhhhh to A-OK! |
