Disguised and meets the challenge as in, What is this pencil? I like the use of depth of field to obscure the pencil writing and make it more difficult to discern the pencil. Great job.

Hi my name is Leroy. I am here in response to your request for an indepth critique of this photo.

First Reaction (the most important one)
I'm usually pretty liberal on if things meet the challenge, and I couldn't force myself to make this one fit.

Lighting
Lighting is a bit boring and overall just flat.

Composition
For this type of shot, I suppose the composition is ok, but nothing really makes it stand out.

Focus and other Technicals
Focus seems ok, exposure is also ok. May be just a tad overexposed.

Meeting the Challenge
Not even close. Now, if it had been smoke and mirrors, I might have given it to ya :-)

How to grow its score
DPC loves pizazz and wow, but most of all they like images to meet the challenge.

Conclusion
Keep working at it. Most of all, enjoy what ya shoot and do it for you. The rest will come with time.
