I think cropping off the sides to make this more of a square shot would help this shot's composition. Too bad the infant isn't looking toward the camera.

you're probably going to get a lot of comments that say this is a little too "snapshotty" and i would have to agree. all the stuff in the b/g only serves to distract and it would be much better to have sat the baby up more so that his/her face was more toward that camera.
NOW that being said, these types of shots are precious and to be kept carefully where they cannot be lost. I would assume from the shot this is his great grandchild? I envy that, my grandmother died 5 months before my first child was born. I would have loved my children to know her. enjoy seeing this as much as you can for as long as you can.

Unfortunately this is not very interesting. There is too much brown, the man is not smiling nor thoughtful, the baby does not show his/her eyes, the pose is not dynamic and too much centered (there are not leading lines to give some movement to the composition). I like the idea, though. Maybe a darker background and a different position of the two (as the man holding the baby with both hands and looking into the baby's eyes) would have helped in making it a more attractive picture.

It's almost like I can't see the trees for the forest in this one. Maybe too busy?

Photo feels too dark. The subject also isn't overly exciting.

The injury had to been a bummer for sure, yet it appears that the ref is smiling? I imagine he didn't move very far for awhile...perhaps a grimace or dour look would have made this socre a tad higher? Just a thought.

Otherwise, I think the comp is fine. Yes, there's "stuff" in the way, but it's fairly easy to see what's going on, and actually the positioning of the subject is done in a classical ROT layout. Ok, so maybe you could've taken a smidge off the left. :-)
