Where's the theme in this photograph? Just a bunch of fruits and veggies thrown in a bowl. To further define, I'm not looking for a specific theme, or even any theme at all. You need to do that. You need to tell me what you want me to see, or what you want me to imagine. Still life photography needs theme just as it needs spatial relationships, accute lighting, clarity, and texture. You don't do a good job of any of that, in my opinion. What I'd like to see you do (up to you, of course) is come at this same setup from a different perspective, with more dramatic lighting (the LAST fruit in the bowl; quite dramatic), and better design elements. I'm sure you'd agree that you can take a better picture. I don't like your background either...how does it help in the overall impact of the photograph? It doesn't.

Very simple, very rustic, but that's about it. This isn't the type of beauty that wins these contests. In order to win, I'd ditch the minimal motif and get in close to your subject. Show us the velvetty texture of the cherries against the brushed metal of the dish.

Too much shadow if you ask me (and you are asking me, aren't you?) Good focus, though. That's something that a lot of people need to work on. You've obviously got a good grasp on it.

This looks like an ad for a leatherman...but beyond that, you started the ball rolling by making this still image full of action. Now, find a better background. Metal always looks good on even more weathered metal. But you have to be careful not to conflict colors and patterns. You might have kept this same setup, but taken the picture in b&w, merely because this background DOES have texture. B&W would have exploited that texture.
