Actually, if you want to be pedantic, I believe it should be "The role of fathers is underrated." of the fathers is a prepositional phrase. So the verb should agree with the singular "role" :)

But this was my highest score, because fathers and their roles are underrated as a society.

There's nothing pedantic about it.
It's either correct or not. And you're correct, it should be singular.

As for your comment Neat, the colours don't look natural and the highlights are blown out.
I wasn't the one or two, but I could easily see why someone decides to go that route.

I was going to pull out a soap film as well, but I already have two in my top five.
My only knock is there appears to be grain or a texture applied in the middle portion of the bubble. Still gave it an eight because it was a good image.
