| 04/16/2004 02:50:00 PM | BMWby 19840624Comment: the shape of the car is far too indistinct - it would seem that lighting was totally insufficient... it might have been improved once you got home; a slight increase in brightness and a huge increase in contract would have improved it. Also too much of the car has been cropped out, the person at the back is distracting... Though i am personally unable to equate a BMW with strength (horsepower, yes) I'm sure you might have found a better example out in the street under natural light. |
| 04/16/2004 12:42:59 PM | TERRY FOX --- Marathon Of Hope Anniversary April 12, 1980by LENWOODBLUZComment: Wowser! Talk about obscure referenceâ€Â¦ Admittedly being a little bit pedantic, but isn’t marathon running more about endurance than strength? Minor quibble, I suppose. The image is a goodun’. From this viewpoint the runner looks a bit constipated, but the lighting including the sky is really rather pleasant, and the inclusion of the Canadian flag with pole is really a very nice touch. The border is a bit too sophisticated for my liking, and I might have been tempted to crop out bottom to get rid of the light column at the foot of the picture. The bold depth of colours is very good and overall it's an appealling image. 7.5, which I guess means an 8. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 04/16/2004 12:05:52 PM | Fight the Powerby eswikComment: Clearly overexposed - and a good thing too! It looks really cool, dramatic and ever so stylish. I very definitely love this image - very bold, simple, and did i mentiong stylish? well, it is! there is a slight possible over use of neatimage type noise reduction (though i might be wrong and whomever is modelling has incredibly smooth hands) but generally for impact, i would say this is one of my favourites. 9. |
| 04/16/2004 11:20:45 AM | Strength of Faithby Polar7Comment: Being agnostic / erring towards atheism, on a personal basis i can't really relate to this shot. However, I know a damn good picture when i see it, and see it i do. I like muchly the lighting, the shadow cast across the page, and the quality of the image - focus, composition and DOF all, to me (an amateur with no talent) seems spot on. I think that it could do with a slightly going over with neatimage to make the colours a bit bolder, but that aside, very good! 8. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 04/16/2004 10:48:36 AM | STRONG drinkby cjocelynComment: This is actually a deceptively complicated shot - either you have many friends or you're an octopus. Might be more impressive if you added a whisp of guiness into the mix but still... Stuff pouring from a bottle is ALWAYS photogenic when captured well, and i would say you've certainly done that. Very well done - though it might be a tad sharper if a slightly shorter shutter time was used... I like this, it fits the challenge and deserves to do well. Only question is, did you drink the subject in question? | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 04/16/2004 07:06:29 AM | fluffy powerby YuliyaGComment: Cute title, but technically not a wonderful picture... I would imaging that you were not particularly inclined to pick up the mouse and place it in a more appealingly photogenic location, but it might have been worth trying to find a volunteer to do it as the environment is a little uninspiring. I different viewpoint might have been worth exploring; seeing fluffy's face instead of its arse would improve composition, methinks. Colour would have been my preference (might make the cat more distinctive against the skirting), as would a bit more focus on the corpse. had potential, is a good idea, could do with a little post editting (such a noise reduction with neatimage). |
| 04/16/2004 05:56:58 AM | The Strength of Steelby JeanComment: Le Tour Eiffel is very popular this week. Well, i've seen two so far. I actually saw it for the first time myself this time last month... Very impressive it is too, and particularly photogenic. I must ask, why have you included the signage in the frame? There are lots of viewpoints which are sign free, and I really do not think that the signs adds anything to your shot. Most people would know it's in Paris (apart from Lancashirians who might think it's Blackpool Tower) so a point of reference really isn't needed. Also, the tree is getting in the way of the view... Pity that the sky is overcast too, but there's little you can do about that. 5. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 04/16/2004 05:32:46 AM | the strength of an old houseby anshalin1Comment: Blimey! Does the house really look like that, or did you use some funky lens? Either way, jobsagoodun! The B&W totally suits the subject matter, the sky is suitably dramatic, composition and focus all in check... very interesting and arresting image - if there's any justice in the world this will be at least a top 10 finisher. go you! 10 |
| 04/16/2004 05:23:54 AM | Team workby daemoniComment: I guess it kind of conveys strength... The biggest problem for me is the small percentage of the image that's actually in focus - your title suggests more than one thing delivering strength, but the focus seems resolutely stuck on the one bolt (and admittedly a bit of the timber post). It might be improved by stepping back and incorporating more of the timber frame... Also by doing that the background might have appeared a little less harsh (the white ground is a bit distracting). The porch looks like a very nice place to be for cold drinks though... |
| 04/16/2004 04:53:52 AM | 3,000 PSIby PirateJabezComment: Is pressure really a measure of strength? Not sure; i don't profess to be an expert so i'll not form an opinion. Anyway, it's 2900 PSI - sorry! Being pernickity. I'll stop it. I actually think this is quite elgant in an understated kind of way, and I think the pipe to the left adds rather than detracts from the image, which in itself is a rarity. The lighting is a bit amiss - the shadow on the face is a little unfortunate, but i guess unavoidable. In all, I like it! I wonder; did you try this in sepia to see how it looked? 7. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
