Shoemakerby primabarbaraComment: A dying trade preserved: the leading line of the bench, cluttered with tools of the trade and boots, encourages the eyes to circle round to the jolly craftsman himself. The sharpness of the image facilitated the opportunity to look at all the details of his shop - really quite fascinating. Two-digit score from me. |

Stonehorse Bakery and Marketby timfythetooComment: The multiple frames - picture frame, outside bricks of window, window frame, pans on side of window, window and shelf in the back, high hanging pan at top - all work remarkably well to bring the viewer's attention to the baker in front. The has so many interesting things to explore. The light seems harsh washing out the colors a bit, but that is okay as it lends to the mood and, truth be known, there probably is not much color in a bakery kitchen anyway! Double digit rating on this image from me. |

Rolling Homeby NikonJebComment: Clearly a candid, hand-held, night capture - technically difficult given those constraints; so there are, naturally, the inherent troubles present: blurred, grainy, OOF. Yet, I kept coming back to it. It was the last image of this challenge I scored because I struggled to balance its technical flaws against the poignancy of the image.
Initially, it was the striking golden light slicing the square that drew my attention, so I thought the composition good for the square crop. But upon seeing what you were recording, you snagged my emotions - and held on.
If I had to rate this strictly on technical criteria, I hope you understand it would not do well; however, the emotional impact is nearly overwhelming and what you have captured deserves laudations. Eight from me. |

square Dickby jmritzComment: I appreciate the geometric and freeform shapes incorporated within the square. Well, and quickly, seen. |

7... 7... 7... 7... :))by MondComment: Quite frankly the texture overlay undoes this image for me, but I really like how the concept defines your title. Had to smile. |

5.6183by SEGComment: Textures are almost always something I look for in an image; this does not fail to pique my interest from that point. Good lighting. Tack sharp. |

5.82by vawendyComment: Not until I opened the thumbnail did I realize the black hunter lurking...
Beautifully lit. Everything important sharp as a tack. Effective composition. Fun story unfolding. Earns more than 5.82 from me! |
