combat bootsby CPBaileyComment: First and foremost, thank you for your service. Having read your comments, I appreciate the meaning and symbolism behind your image.
The low key you were striving for may have been too low key. The image is so dark it is difficult to even discern the subject. The image may be slightly OOF, also.
Your set up is satisfactory: military boots at attention. I like the negative space on the left - as if the boots are walking away from that part of your life - and so you noted in your comments.
With a different lighting set-up, I think this would have been a much stronger image. Lighting is something with which I struggle, too. So...

walkerby AbraComment: Quite frankly, initially I did not like this image, but it kept beckoning me back. In the end, I think you've done well with the square crop by incorporating a very effective geometric design (the pathway) which, incidentally added the element of repetitive symmetry by virtue of the paving stone pattern. The lamps add their own triangle to the square crop. B&W was a good choice. All in all, I've amended my initial sentiment and now consider it an image worth studying. Nice work: 7. |

Never Going Backby JudiComment: The loss of the model's face in her hair is somewhat disappointing and her foot seems rotated contrary to her torso - perhaps due to the twirl. Otherwise this is quite a fanciful setting. It must have been challenging to shoot. Good luck. |

Bathing timeby AlainComment: Spot on sharp. His concentration on the bathing ritual made me chuckle. Good luck. |

Dream Seedsby namComment: Aren't milkweeds the most fascinating plants to shoot? Nice dof. |

Brownie al la modeby mluComment: Shapes come forward here: the brownie square within the square crop is well centered. The dollop of ice cream is a nicely centered circle. Since 'centeredness' is surely something one can take advantage of in a square crop, I laud your accomplishment with that. The swirls of the serving dish frame the food energetically. It does seem a tad OOF - food is so dang hard to shoot - but overall, it is an image that offers the eye plenty to explore. |

Made With Loveby WessamComment: Yummy, yummy. That there are circles upon circles repeated within the square is playful. For me, the heavy border overpowers the gaiety of the subject and effectively obliterates what could be one more circle, the serving tray. Nonetheless, a enjoyable image. |

Icy edgeby IreneMComment: Crystal-like clarity. Two strong diagonals "x" this square boldly and subtly: The obvious silvery edge is the most dominating diagonal but that crimson light powering its way through the middle of the maroon and yellow lighting is an equally dynamic diagonal. The change of texture from the velvety upper left to the nubbly lower right is an interesting study in of itself. In the thumbnail this appears overly simple; in reality it is quite complex and a most engaging study. Good luck. |

catnessby TiberiusComment: The half-light half-shadow effect works quite nicely in this square format.
{PS: Pretty kitty.} |
