Spike - Up Close and Personal

Love it! I hate to say this, but excellent sharpness. :-) I also love the color scheme - you can't go wrong with yellow, green and red. I would love to see another version of the same shot focused on the foreground points with a slightly smaller aperture - maybe f/8 or f/11. You'd still get decent bokeh, but more of the image would be in focus. Without a very specific point of focus that you're calling attention to with a shallow DOF, I usually find that it's better to go with a smaller aperture to increase sharpness throughout. Still, very nice photo, Rikki!

Balance

This is a very nice setup with outstanding rich colors. It's hard in JPEGs with solid colors like this to keep smooth tones, especially when dealing with sharpening. You might want to retouch this reduced-size image by hand to deal with jagged lines and rough patches in solid areas, particularly where they bump up against another solid area. It might also help to try resizing the original without any sharpening, processing that image, and then doing a very subtle sharpening on the final version. Despite all this feedback, this is a really beautiful photo that already looks great as-is.

There are always one or two photos in each challenge that I can't believe didn't score much higher, and this is one of them. I do find that background pole a bit distracting, but this photo is outstanding in every other regard. Very nicely done, Alan.

Great, great image. There's a fair amount of noise in the rain drops, but other than that, this is a technically amazing image with excellent clarity and focus that works great for this challenge. Very nicely done.

This is a really nice picture and a great subject for this challenge. The shot seems to have a significant green caste, which you can easily fix after the challenge is over. Other than that, very well done.
