Uh oh - this is going to get "monitor calibration" comments. It's never safe to enter something so dark because many monitors will see it as TOO dark. For me the hat (is he wearing a hat?) and everything above his eyebrows is completely dark except for a hint of hatband. (yes, I can see all the gradations of the darkness scale)

I'm curious, why didnt you straighten the tree? It would have made her shoulders more even. Did it make her head too tilted? Wonderful portrait - I like how the orange repeats in the background, shirt, hair tie and hair highlights.
