It was manually focused using live view. The softness was intentional - i wanted to give it a "dreamy" effect. Thanks for all the comments.

Do you mean sharpen it in post-process or just use a higher f-value as the 1.4 is too soft?

Thanks for all the comments, all are very helpful in learning to be a better photographer. This was not a "staged" or planned shot, i was wandering around the house and found this candle lit in a pretty dark room with curtains drawn. I thought about testing my Sigma 30mm f1.4 hand-held and just took this shot. I liked the way it came out.
