Did you ever have a pic that you looked at a million times and never commented? LOL I love this picture. The colors are very vivid at give it a storybook like feel. Well deserved blue, congrats!

I think this is an ADORABLE portrait that a little post processing can help. It needs straightened and the lighting is pretty harsh.

I am going to respectfully disagree with Artyste on this one :)

I personally like the color on this one. I kinda like the street with the red background.

I am not sure, however, I like the angle. I think shooting from straight on could have improved this so that the lines of the building were straight across your frame.

I would have also pulled your subjects away from the background.

The mom and son look akward....like they are uncomfortable.

I agree with what Artyste said about warning people beforehand that you are just starting out. I still do that with people as I have only been doing portrait photography for 2yrs. Even a few weeks ago when I was called to do a family shoot, I told the lady that I am very comfortable with individual portraits but I don't have a ton of experience with families and waived my sitting fee.

Keep trying and keep an open mind and the only place to go is up :)

I am going to give you some honest, critical feedback here. The only way I have improved is from people pointing things out to me that I could not 'see' myself....

1) The shot suffers from perspective distortion. I am guessing it is from using a short focal length. Ideal for portraits is around 85mm. See how the little boy's head is larger than his dad's?
2) Blown highlights- See how the shoulder of the dad, the boy's hair, and the background have lost detail due to being overexposed?
3)I am wondering if you used a softening filter in the post processing. The mom looks like she was shot through a piece of glass or something. See how the boy looks much sharper?
4) The angle is not pleasing, IMO. It would look better if your lens was up a little higher...perhaps level with the eyes of the little girl.
5)Your pose is decent. You did a good job connecting your subjects and not having gaps between them.
6) You did a good job getting a good expression on all their faces.

Hope that helps some :)

Wow, powerful shot. It caught my eye immediately. The selective coloring is warranted her and works well. The tones all work well together. Excellent.
