Nice Capture, I took this into photoshop to get a better look at the stictching and you did a really good job wiith it. Very nice colors in the sky and water, If there only was a boat or something to hold the interest this would be an awesome shot.

I love the story behind your photo, I also agree with you that the face behind is distracting. But the one thing I really wanted to comment on is how you captured the smoke from the cigarette in the upper left on the photo. I think that is really cool and you may lose that if you go and turn this image to B&W. The Eyes of the man also tell alot . Maybe try selective desaturation. of the background instead of B&W. This is a great shot, I dont want to see any of the detail lost to a conversion.
