I love the colors and lighting of this picture. Looks like you didn't have much time left to grab a picture like this either - but I think the sun was in the PERFECT place. Maybe would like the plane a little more up and left - but I can imagine it being hard to grab a picture like this in any case.

Honestly not sure I understand the title and picture totally with out reading what you have to say about it - but I do like the picture. Perhaps he's a troop overseas and the letters he sends and receives are his own personal light in the darkness, or something to that effect? Regardless - I do like the picture!

Sorry - over all this one doesn't really bring me in. On my monitor atleast it's very very dark as I'm pretty sure you mean it, but not so much how I would like it personally. I'm really not sure what to say in regards to how I would prefer to see it - but maybe just a little more detain in the vase or something. If you had not mentioned it being a vase (and if it is important enough to say so in the description I suppose you want people to realize it) I would have thought it were a bottle or something really. Any glass object, really.

Haha, I like this one. I believe it's my favorite so far into the challenge! Looks like it's very evenly exposed on my monitor and all the collors save for the cyany cast in your reflection.

In terms of the focusing, most of it has to do with the f/3.5, such a narrow DoF doesn't help the photo. The bokeh in the back is good in that it's not distracting, but I would have to agree that it does lack a little punch and over all ingenuity. Remember also, that your main subject doesn't have to lay in the middle of the frame.
