Waiting....by PhotomamaComment: I'm surpised that there haven't been more entries like this one. A great example of backlighting. My suggestion would be to cut down the exposure slightly, and crop in closer on the girl. I see too much door here, and it hurts the piece. Also, the stool adds nothing but distraction. It's a great moment, so keep shooting, and see what you can come up with in the future :) |

nude on the sunby anatolio25Comment: I'm not sure if I like the sun where it is or not. Great example of backlighting, a wonderfully posed profile (good emotion), and great composition. I don't like the yellow tint, but that's just personal preference. |

Getting coldby herc004Comment: This shot is definitely backlit, but I think it suffers because of a lack of decent lighting, focus, and composition. I find it too dark in the bottom half, and cropped far too closely at the top. Also, the subject is a little "plain" for lack of a better word, and you'll find that it's probably uninteresting to many. Keep trying though. |

Leaves and Cloudsby edc1Comment: I had to look at this for a few minutes, because at first glance, the light seems to be coming from the front of the subject.. but then, if you study the shadows, you realize it isn't. Still, it is coming in from a more frontal-side than *back*, and that'll probably hurt you in the long run. I like your composition in this. It's almost like a city scape of flora. The colors are very nice as well. |

Snail Tomatoby s4nd3r99Comment: This is a nice piece in my opinion. Focus is a touch soft for me, but the backlighting is very evident, and I love the little trail of fluid. I would suggest that maybe a kidney bean, or some other type of prop be used on the left side of the tomato to give the subject more of a "snail" appearance. |

Water Before Fireby piscerienComment: I feel the lack of focus hurts this photograph, and that lack of clarity also makes it hard to determine the source of light. This may be backlit, but it's just too hard to determine *what* it is, what the focal point should be, and what this photograph is all about. |

Erosionby awpollardComment: Too much frontal lighting ruins any backlighting effect. |

A Sliceby tfarrell23Comment: I personally don't like the color shifting that was done here.. It takes too much attention from the fact that it's backlit, and makes it look more like a well colored painting. |

A Splash of Sunlightby smartypantsComment: Here's a photograph that I think is absolutely stunning, but I can guess that you're probably getting hit a little hard in the voting because "It's a silhouette!" Am I right? hehe. Not me. The bottle is silhouetted, true, but that's not the subject. Your subject is the splash of water, which is *very* beautifully enhanced by the lighting in this, and not at all silhoutted. Composition is strong, leading you from one side of the photograph with the strong dark bottle top, to the other end through the flow of water. My two gripes with this is that it looks a little over-smoothed, and the exposure is perhaps a little high (could use less flash in the sparkling highlights). However, a beautiful photograph, a great example of backlighting, and one of the better shots (IMO) of the challenge. Congrats. |

Tanzanian Sunsetby gorkeComment: Clever idea. You've oversharpened a little much on this (haloing on the grass stalks), and exposure was a touch too much I think.. I like what you were going for though, and the coloring in the background is almost dead on. Great effort. |
