Right I'll tell you what I did that has caused the problems and you'll think I'm pretty stupid, oh well, here goes, I was going to do a disc fragmentation on my hard drive on my pc, when I noticed the removable disc (my camera) so I decided to do a disc fragment on that; it cant hurt, I thought. Well since I did that I have had problems with the menu and other buttons on the back of the camera. e.g. sometimes when I press menu nothing happens but wheb I press back the menu pops up and only 1 of the direction buttons will work. Sometimes taking the memory card out and reinserting it will cure the problem, but it just comes back again later. also I have a 128mb mem card which I formatted via my pc, by clicking on removable disc, and when I put that in my camera it says on the camera screen "!card not initialised" How do I initialise it? Can anyone help me? please send any helpfull tips to craigh15@orange.net if possible

Cheers

Never format the camera or memory card with the computer. I think most cameras use FAT32, although most computer also use FAT32 some use NTFS and they won't work correctly together.

Always use your camera to format a memory card, even though XP does it for you after you upload do not do it just in case.

Yes, but I did do it, is there any way I can initialise the memory card via the pc as I cannot seem to do it with my camera?

Try a card reader. You may want to try troubleshooting section at the Fujifilm website.

A card reader? is that an accessory for my camera?

A card reader is an inexpensive ($20USD) device that plugs in to a USB port on your computer and has a slot for your card. The computer sees the card as a drive.

You can purchase a card reader that you can plug into the a spare usb hub and have it upload/download pictures, info, etc. You can buy one that only XD cards or multi-format one for other cards too.
