Welcome to the site Jenmustang! If you are a paying member you can check your scores in depth during the challenge. If you are a free member you have to wait til the challenge is over to know that specific of your scoring break down.

I'm not a paying member yet so I don't have an update button. scores are updated hourly for me. You have to do a little calculation to figure it out. I made a little Excel spreadsheet that calculates it for me. I enter the #of votes and avg score from the last update and #of votes and avg score currently and it calculates the average score given since the last update. Since I only had one vote in that hour it was obvious what score they gave me.

I can say it's the first time score doesn't bother me too much. I like my entry and I am happy with the result regardless the voting.

Yeap!!!

There are a couple of images that I'm really struggling with to find an "Accidental Letter". I'll have to come back to them with fresh eyes, and play "I spy" with them, to find the letters. Overall, just way too many snapshots. The overall quality of this challenge iw way down, in my eyes, anyway. However, let me also say, there are a couple outstanding takes.

I think you're being a tad unfair to the 'newbies' Mr Johnson. We don't all have 31 years experience at this game you know. I wouldn't know a 'densitometer' from a 'lightmeter', but I'm trying to learn.
If I may be so bold, can I suggest you use your experience to criticise constructively and pass on your wealth of knowledge to those less fortunate.

What do you think the high score will be for this challenge? Do you think any of these photos will get over 7? I think this will probably be a low scoring challenge compared to some other recent ones.

Seems to me, the scores has been down for last several challenges. Its interesting when go to the commenters profile and they have an average score < 4. Sorry to many good photographers on this site for any one to have an average like that......imo...................ace

Well, I personally use this site as a teaching tool, and something to help me broaden my imagination when it comes to photography. I like the fact that I can look at my scores from past challenges and realize that they are, slowly but surely improving over all. Just because my average score might be lower than others doesn't mean that I don't have the right to make a comment or two. Sometimes you can learn more from a novice than an expert, it's easy to get a clouded mind.

How does a paid member look at "in depth" scores during a challenge??? I thought we could only update and see our average, our comments and if anyone chose ours as a favorite.

I just took him to mean that he feels that many people are better photograhers than their average score indicates. Am I wrong ace flyman?

I believe paid members only get the advantage of the update button as far as scores are concerned. There's no "in depth" information. Of course a paid member could answer this better than I :-)

Ooohhhh! Sorry, I might have misunderstood. I got on my soapbox there for a moment. I'll get off it now. :)

Danny,
there is one fundamental flaw in your spreadsheet calculation; I for one usually vote in two passes. This means that your score can change without changing the number of votes, if I changed the mark after revising it either upwards or downwards. There are others @DPC that do this, I believe.

That's correct. Some members also have created Excel spreadsheets, etc to calculate the average score since the last update, which can tell you what your last score was.

Bryan, this is not exactly true. See my comment below. (Although I am puzzled by both the people that keep track of the votes via excel spreadsheet and by myself analyzing their analysis.)

This one will be my second highest score and I do think my picture sux very bad! And it's doing wonderfully well. Weird isn't it?
My pet portrait is lovely and nowhere close to get the same score as the Accidental letter one. I guess I really nailed the subject on my photo. But I still dislike it.......

I agree with you. I also change my votes on quite a few photos each challenge. I don't use any of these programs/worksheets myself...I just constantly hit the update button hoping my score will go up! :-)

Wow! Don't people who go to the trouble of creating Excel spreadsheets have an awful lot of time on their hands???? LOL! Maybe I'll be doing that in about 8 more years. I admit to being a fanatic to this sight, but I am afraid I'll jinx myself by posting my current score or trying to figure out the voting. I'm not in this challenge, but am in the pet portrait challenge. I'm loving my comments is all I'll say (and the "critter" won't rack up any cutsie points!).

Well I will say this I keep coming back to this site and seeing the votes for mine,,and realising that I deffintely could have taken a better shot,,,its funny sometimes you are your own worst critic,,but I will say this,,the next shot I take will be a better one,,I am not happy with this one but hey it was my first time and I have 3 small ones to tend to , as well as going back to school so I guess you do what you can with the time you have,, "It's all good"

Sometimes it's slow at work. I'm no Excel expert so it took me about thiry minutes to figure out the formula in Excel. I can't help it. I'm addicted. It may be worth $25 just for the update button. :-)
