Hey there Robert, I'm one of the faces in the crowd just waiting to see what you end up with and more importantly, your subsequent output. I have been wanting that Canon 10-22 that you are buying, but it's just not the right time for me to be buying another.

I agree with jbsmithana that you're setting a great example by buying local... in response, I'll commit along with you to make my next purchase at a local store that has helped me out with more minor items lately.

Okay, Escape velocity attained good news/bad news variety. Went to the store today and made a package deal:

Canon 20D
Canon 10-22 f/3.5
Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di
Canon 60mm f/2.8 Macro
Canon 70-200 f/4.0

The Tamron and the 70-200 are ordered, should be here next week early, the 70-200 will be for sure. The 10-22 and the 60 macro are in my hands as we speak. BUT....

They sold the last 20D in the shop last night. I have to wait til early next week for "my" 20D. They sent me home with a 300D to tide me over, and I'm playing with that right now. All I can say is WOW. I'm like the guy who looks at the girl next door after 15 years and says, "Jeeze, where have you been all my life?" The image quality is SO much better, even with the 300D, than what I was getting with Nikon. Hell, the ones I'm playing with right now, the camera was preset at "jpg SMALL" and they are STILL better, by far, in terms of noise and accutance...

This is going to be a whole lot of fun...

Robt.

edit: I actually PREFER the 300D to the 350D as far as size/ergonomics/feel goes, for what that's worth.

Been at the store. Fallin' in LOVE with the Canon 10-22. Whatta lens... Got introduced to a Tamron 24-135, brought some test shots home. Seems to be well-regarded from the input I can find online. That's nice coverage, 10-135, eh?

Trying to figure how to fit all this together.

I can get an XT, a Canon 100 Macro, the Canon 10-22, the Canon 70-200 4.0L, and the 24-135 Tamron within my budget. Can get the Canon 200mm 2.8 prime for about the same price as the 70-200. Have to sacrifice something to get the 20D. REALLY like the 20D controls, plus the LCD on top instead of back, and the general feel of the cam...

But the XT will take the same picture, given that I don't need the speed...

Help!

R.

have you tried the XT with the Battery Grip attached? That may make a big difference in how it feels to you as well....

Edit: Ooops....wrote before I read! I really need to hit that reverse button because I do this a lot!!! :)

Have fun. You'll be freaking when you get the 20D delivered. Looks like a nice selection of goodies.

Cheers!
