SOoo the big question. Are those with more than just the date in the title getting better scores or lower scores? Don't give away your title ot describe your pic but does it seem to make a difference?

I meant that as far as the scale is presented. Looking at the scale, DPC has the word BAD by 1 and Good by 10 - so in the middle (5) would be average. I really dont think people are considering this when they vote, and thus give out lower scores than a photo deserves. I look at a 5 as being no better than the average amatuer could take, and a 1 being what some shmuck who rarely picks up a camera would take.

Don't take it too harshly - there are some trolls that SC cant get rid of, some people that vote 1 out of sour grapes because they arent doing too well, there are some people that will vote you down because purely because they dont like dogs (i get that when i photograph my snakes) and then there are absolute nutjobs like Chit thrown in to make DPC fun. Even the ribbons get ones, you learn to just not look at them \:)

Minne has continued to go up from a dreadful start. Still not to where I would like it but at least it is increasing. And I got a comment...woohoo!

Speaking of the ones without the year in the title, are they Dq'd? Rules state it must be the year for the title.

Humm now that could be interesting, but you are absolutely correct, the year should be in the title...

This one is too hard to vote on. Maybe I'm taking the challenge too literally. I'm looking at an image and based on the year of the title, I'm asking myself if the photo provides a feeling of that year or an essence of the era or makes me think of an event from that year. I'm finding that I can't answer any of these questions on a lot of photos, and I'm scoring those photos low. Maybe if I approach this fresh in the morning ...?

After 6 votes I had a 7.5, but I knew that wasn't going to last.

Maybe I should go to sleep and deal with it in the morning.

i'm starting to get annoyed trying to vote - i had a big clump of photos without the year in the title, photos predicting the future (which is the complete opposite of the challenge) and then some digital rendering to top the cake. I'm going to bed.

p.s. im still rollarcoasting with my score.

Your title should be the year that you are trying to capture for future generations.

A significant majority of the entries did just that. Very refreshing; check the date, look at the picture, vote. A welcome change from the usual diet. EXCEPT.... There's a LOT of pictures that either reference no date at all, or load the title down with explanations. Maybe I'm just cranky tonight, but that irritated the heck out of me. I did EXACTLY what I was told to do; my title is "the year", period. That's what they asked for, that's what most of us gave 'em. It wasn't so hard to do...

But for those who say "DQ 'em!", well, we can't do that; "not meeting the challenge" is not grounds for DQ; it's up to the voters to decide...

I'm getting kind of frustrated going through this challenge as well. So far there have been a lot of pictures of just some person or landscape with 2005 as the year. Many of those shots are really nice, but have absolutely nothing to do with the challenge, which is a shame.

People must be pissed off or something, I don't know, I do believe my shot is not a 5. I really thought I could break into the 6's on this challenge...guess there's always next challenge! ;-) GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

Everyone needs to be open minded BUT also look at the subject. It's easy if it's a B&W pic of a covered wagon or a 1950's toaster. Now if the subject is so open that no period of time or action that relates to a specific time in history then it's just a pretty photo. A portrait of a friend can be indeed pretty but it could be 1950, 60, 70, 80 or yesterday ... BUT what are they wearing or doing? Is the subject looking like or doing something relating to the date in the title? There are some great "period" or journalistic photos representing a time in history. Look at the attempt then after a good night sleep re-evaluate and as someone else already stated ... "deal with it". Again, some great pics and some that just don't make sense at all.

And we all thought the voting process is a no-brainer:

if you like it = vote HIGH
if you dislike it = vote LOW

what is the fuss about?

So first comment says "???" and nothing else. Easy to see that his or her vote was a very low (possibly a 1) when other votes kinda good. How do you check the box that finds his comment helpful. I think some people need to go to bed. How do you explain a time in history matches the date shown (famous for) without being rude like a "1" is? After all, a covered wagon can represnt a period in time that could easily span 50 years. A long "pioneer" dress can represent a period of easily 50 years or more. A group of old family pictures could easily represent decades. Come on guys and gals, open your minds and look at the photos. Did the photographer attemt to represent a period in time, if so lets just be friends with everyone.

I'm with you on this.
I am for creativity and thinking laterally, but if the challange states

_ Your title should be the year that you are trying to capture for future generations - then thats what I expect to see, and that will be part of my marking criteria.
