Once the "recent photo thumbnail" forum code is finished, other 50x50 avatars might look a bit much. Also it can make things look cluttered and tacky imo, less proffesional looking.

Also, it is a way for people to quickly identify a user, member, mod, or admin.. I think keeping it streamlined is a good idea.
