I have a 20 image portfolio due next tuesday and I'm stuck at 15 images. I am looking for some inspiration and I'm sure this is a good place to start. feel free to leave url's of other photogs as well as your favorit pics.

I think this should be fun for all, not just for me

Topher, there are a lot of great images in the 'Random images' threads. I don't have any great pics, but photos of fruit and lizards always capture my attention.

Do some abstracts they are always fun...

Not too hard either...just find a bright subject, like a flower, backlight it and turn your shutter speed down low. Turn and twist your camera to get cool lines and jazz...

It's a good time...

when I'm in a slump I pick a room and then find everything I can possibly take a picture of, the light switches, the carpet texture, spiders & dust bunnies, cracks in the paint, underneath the furniture, etc.

It sounds like a boring subject but I end up surprised every time at some of the interesting pictures I end up with. It's these little exercises in "seeing" that help me get out and shoot something that's really worth shooting and I get better shots for it.

As far as favorite photographers go...
well my favorites on this site are Jean, librodo and angela_packard

Take a look around at people's profiles and see who their favorites are, you can find a lot of interesting stuff that way.

what is the portfolio for?. anything? . Usually there is a certain 'type' of image that is needed, anyway. grab your camera and walk into your kitchen and play, you'll find yourself pulling knifes and forks, jars, etc out and all sorts and coming up with all different abstact images- think about your background- how can it be better?, or go for a walk and look for an image, once found get the weirdest angle you can get, then refine it until you have perfect composition and lighting. It's endless, ever seen a flower at midday on a sunny day shot from straight above, or underneath? Most shoot straight on to get the flower. The slow shutter and zoom trick is a goodie for sure. Live in a city, go out at night, use a tripod and zoom, use your depth of field and imagination. Live in the country or near a beach, go out at perfect light hours or night. Night water movement shots are awesome. Over expose, under expose, use your talent- Most of all ... have fun and let it flow!

I posted my 'method' yesterday in my photoblog...

method: lie on floor. look at something vaguely interesting on the ceiling. put camera in front of face. push button. convert to black and white. dump into photoshop. open curves menu and make a pretty s-shape. auto-level. usm with max amount, medium threshold, and move radius to where you want. ditch it when it doesn't work with the current shot. overlay random photo of intersting roots growing on a brick wall.

Lather, rinse, repeat with variations.
