Hi everyone!
I'm eager to get a few toys for my camera. Especially a telephoto lens - preferable one that is a 200 or 300mm (I think that's right)...One that isn't tooo expensive, but one that does give more than the standard 105.
I would also like to get a macro lens - but don't know if I need one. My camera does produce pretty great macros - but I want more - but not sure if it's needed or what to get.
Anyone have any suggestions for what type and brand. I do have a step-up ring and a polorizer (still learning when to use).
Thanks for any suggestions.

I have a cheap close up lense being delivered Monday from Kinko along with a step up ring. They cost $50 together. I'll let you know if it does well. I know it isn't macro but I didn't have the money for that and the polarizing filter I just got (I love it!). I also noticed that Tiffen has some good buys on close up and macro lenses. Good luck to you RedRuthann and I'll let you know how my new lense turns out. |

The best you could do as far as I know...Your best bet is to get an Olympus C-210 which is 1.9x Telephoto giving you a total of 199.5 mm..Also, I don't know the prices on these since I don't need one.
You would need a CLA-1 or equivalent adapter..I don't know what the lens threads are on the C-210.
Alternatively, you could get a B-300 (which is what I use sometimes with my C-2040Z) which is 1.7x but it's bloody expensive and eBay is the only place to get them.
Macro stuff...Again, you need the adapter + either a B-Macro or A-Macro or something similar...A lot of people use Close-up filters +1,+2,+3,+4 (they usually come in a set of 3) and are successful with those.
There's also a number of other lenses you could use...Your mileage might vary however...
C-190,C-210, B-300 <-- oly lenses C-8 I think is Canon Tiffen makes some more...Look around :) |

Thank you both very much.
....I could take a photo of my new lenses tomorrow for the challenge - lol I don't have anything for this week's challenge - yet.
One other question....does the brand matter if the thread fits?

Yes it matters...
Crappy lenses are not worth the money Good lenses from respected manufacturers are ok |

I got the close up lense and it works fine. I don't know enough about cameras yet to have an opinion on whether or not it is "crappy" since it is a cheap lense. I just know that it is an improvement over the camera's normal macro and digital zoom. I got a +3:f300mm and here are some of my first photos with it.

If you go with a Kinko, Tiffen, or other brand not specifically designed for a certain brand usually have the compatibility charts on the item description and let you know what kind of step up ring is required.

I´ve got a C3040 and a C4000 at work and it is the same lenses, both tele wide and macro. But you must get the CLA-1 step. |

I have a Olympus C-3000. I bought a teleconverter from Tiffen with their step up ring. The Olympus tele was $200 for a 1.45x and Tiffen was $80 for 2x. Make sense? The step up ring was about $25 from Olympus and $9 or $10 from Tiffen. I'm pretty happy with the teleconverter too. I've taken a few nice pictures with it. Energizer is loving it too, since I have to take pictures with the screen vs. the eyepiece. I've been thinking about the wide angle lately.... but not too seriously.
Hope that helps. Any questions, put them with a reply here. Have a great day. -Inspzil

i have a macro attachment for my canon (500D) and it's awesome. i also bought one of canons teleconverters and it does not work well with my camera at all. i suggest trying the lens out in the store (i didn't :( befor you buy. take a few shots, then look at them on your computer at home to see whether it's worth it.

I also have the Tiffen 2X converter and I have taken some ok shots with it. In fact I took a bunch of my daughter's marching band last Friday night. You can see them Here There was not much light so I was shooting with a shutter speed of only about 1/15th so there is a lot of motion blur. Most of these shots are from at least 50 yards. I can send you the original JPG if you want to see the raw photos. Good Luck, Roger |

Those are very cool, wow 50yards at night, they looked really good.
I saw the tiffen step up ring for $9 and the 2x tele for $80 at circuit city. I think i'll pick them up this weekend.
Thanks |
